warriors are the best to new players because of their simplisity.if u chose a monk for your first person u may end up hating the game unless u get good real fast.

I love my Monk/Necro. I've got her into the Crystal Desert and am hoping to ascend soon. Healing Monks are rather boring but until recently i've used her mostly as a smiter. Smiting has been fun for me playing with the henchmen but in the dersert I've had to play with PUGS so I'm using her as a healer and protection Monk mostly now.
I like my warrior to but I'm having a little more trouble advancing her through the game. I haven't played the other classes enough to know much about them yet but am getting started with my first Mesmer now. |

I like my necro and mesmer the most. They get some cool spells to play with. My other two characters are monk and fire ele. The fire ele is my least favorite....though she did great damage early on. Never tried warrior or ranger.

N/Me is great. Use blood, curses and domination or illusion for the arena. They can give other classes a headache for trying to attack with curses and mesmer skills and still make dmg trought heeling (blood). Many N/Me are warrior/ranger hunters.

none and all.
It's not about best. It's about what role do you like to play the best. Once you figure that out the rest is easy. |

I like playing as a ranger mostly, the balance of powerful skills and 2nd best armor in the game make rangers "Jack-of-all-trades" types.
And there nothing I like more the interuppting a warrior trying to use Healing signet, or anyone trying to use res signet hehe |

In every rpg I've played, I've ALWAYS favored the run in and SMASH type of melee combat character.
It's not that their brainless. Only the ones with no plan are. I just like them due to the beating they can take... Not just that, but this game makes it so Warrior's aren't the 'bottom of the rung' in terms of classes and balance. W/X can do a TON of stuff and is very unpredictable. And yes, the W/Me is probably the anti-caster perfect to stop the one enemy that hurts him the most. ^_^ |

I've always been a fan of caster types, and over the past few months all my characters have ended up as ranged classes, there's something neat about causing havoc from where the enemy can't get you
Plus we have all the flashy crap |

Dunno about PvP but PvE, having started with Ele/Monk, I've tried everything in PreSearing (start of the game) and I love Necro/Ranger. I love summoning minions and the firepower available at range while they attack, plus I'm looking forward to the diversity of Ranger skills. Though annoyingly in this game skills are a long time coming. You can go half way through the game without traps so if like me you want to play tactically, setting the battlefield, you can't for AGES. Likewise a lok at the ELe's spells shows a load of Air spells I want to use but they're not available, so you're limited to throwing fire everywhere.
That's a real take-home point. Don't look at the character skill lists and decide for PvE, but realize you're limited to a sub-set of skills. Is there a guide as to what skills re available when? I know there are skill trainer listings. You could go through them in order (if they're listed in order you meet them) and see what skills are available, and then decide from those. eg. When you see the Ele has fire, fire and more fire, and the other elements spells are fairly weak for PvE, you'll realise there's no variety to that class and can decide if you like that or not. Likewise seeing traps aren't available to rangers for along time you realise playing as a trapper isn't an option for much of the game, so if that was Ranger's appeal, you'll need to find a different gameplay style and maybe a different character. I'd suggest testdriving a lot of character combos in PreSearing. I tried a Mesmer and didn't like it, but my friend did. And as 'best' character is entirely a matter of taste, tasting all combos is important to find what you natural take to. Last edited by Shifty Geezer; Jul 27, 2005 at 08:58 AM // 08:58.. |

I find my Ranger/Warrior has the perfect balance for me - ranged attacks with bows, melee attacks with Swords/Axes/Hammers, plus various skills from both professions.

I love my N/E the most. I use pretty much ALL necro spells (mostly death), so I really didn't need the secondary. I'd like to start a new necro and not have a secondary at all. I'd like to see him be an N20 instead of an N/E20 =)
